(A message inspired by the Gospel of St.John, 17-18)
It is time for the children of God to display all that God is and all that God can mean in the lives of all people. The glory of God stands in stark contrast to the gloom perpetrated among the nations in these days. The disciples of the Lord are to arise and display the life of a person, of a community, and of the world, transformed by the glory of God and the blessings of God's divine Lordship over our hearts, minds and actions.
We start with "knowing" God. Jesus gave us His example, which Saints Francis & Clare followed so perfectly. We are to announce the living glory of God amidst all people by walking in their footsteps as well. We are to pursue a life that follows after God; a life that exemplifies the love of God for all. This is our gift from God, our divine inheritance. We are to share this gift with all that come into contact with.
This life of discipleship is one of joy, completion, fulfillment, and ministry. As Franciscans and Disciples of Jesus,we are called to it,we are drawn to it, we can select no other path for our hearts. It is time to share the love of God that has been shed abroad in our hearts, and to embark upon transforming the world. We will not be "raptured" away from the world and its troubles, instead, we will embark upon a journey that takes us even deeper into the troubles and pains of this earthen-family as we bring light to the dark and hidden places.
It is time to not only consecrate ourselves to this mission, but also time to make our consecration known. Our mission is to the world, let us go there, wherever "the world" is for us, for today. We are to live, speak and teach truth; the truth that God is Love. We are to bear witness to the reality of Grace and demonstrate a life in which that Grace Reigns and disciple others into a grace-filled life. It is our time to proclaim the unity of all people, the unity of all hearts filled with faith, and the unity of all hearts that cry out for faith, love, and grace. This is our mission, this is our time.
It is time to fully and unashamedly live our lives in the love that is God. It is time to help the world know and experience the love of God that already encompasses all peoples, just as the light of the sun reaches all. Like Jesus, we are to obedient to God, love God, know the love of God, and make that love known. This is what Jesus did; this is what Jesus has called His Franciscans to do. This is what Clare and Francis did. We are called to do no less in our day, in our neighborhoods.
